Former Member of Parliament (MP) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) representing the Suhum Constituency, Frederick Opare-Ansah, has characterized NPP flagbearer contender Kennedy Agyapong as someone who engages in loose and imprudent speech and lacks the intellectual capacity to make meaningful contributions to parliamentary deliberations.
Mr Opare-Ansah argued that Kennedy Agyapong, who represents the Assin Central Constituency, has failed to make any substantial contributions or engage in “seminal” discussions on the parliamentary floor despite serving as an MP for over two decades. He suggested that Agyapong’s inability to do so is indicative of his lack of intellectual prowess.
He further asserted that Kennedy Agyapong’s primary mode of operation is making indiscreet remarks and insulting others on campaign platforms, rather than engaging in substantive parliamentary discourse. Opare-Ansah questioned Agyapong’s parliamentary record, stating, “He sat in Parliament for 20 years. Give me one statement he has made as an MP apart from being on the radio to insult and speak indiscreetly on campaign platforms.”
During an interview with the media, Mr Opare-Ansah, who supports Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to become the NPP’s flagbearer, emphasized that any attempts by Kennedy Agyapong and his team to undermine the people’s will in the forthcoming National Delegates Conference for selecting a flagbearer will face fierce opposition.
Kennedy Agyapong is one of four contenders seeking to lead the NPP in the 2024 General Elections.
While he is considered a formidable candidate, various surveys and polls indicate that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who convincingly won the Super Delegates Conference, is the overwhelming favorite to win the election scheduled for November 4, 2023.
