Highlife sensation Joseph Nkrumah Buabeng, popularly known as Nero X, has asserted that supporting a political candidate should not harm his music career.
The “Yawa Dey” hitmaker has shown his support for the National Democratic Congress candidate, John Dramani Mahama, by releasing a hit song titled “Mahama for 2024.”
Despite concerns from some Ghanaians that political endorsements can negatively impact an artist’s career, Nero X disagrees. In an interview with award-winning Entertainment host Tony Best on Akoma FM in Kumasi, Nero X pointed out that other artists like Daddy Lumba and Mr. Beautiful have successfully navigated their careers despite their political endorsements.
He emphasized that all aspects of life involve politics and that making a political choice should not result in criticism or abuse.
Nero X believes his support for John Mahama is based on his perception of Mahama as the right person to lead the country and not a decision that will affect his future career.
In anticipation of the 2024 general elections, Nero X has released a campaign song supporting John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The song, “Mahama for 2024,” premiered on YouTube on June 19 and highlights Mahama’s national development initiatives during his presidency.
The lyrics urge Ghanaians to support Mahama and the NDC to address the country’s current challenges, portraying Mahama as the leader capable of resolving issues created by the current administration.
