In the wake of the unexpected departure of the Black Stars from the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghanaian TV presenter Naa Ashorkor passionately advocates for heightened attention and resources directed towards the nation’s female football squads.

Ashorkor’s call, prompted by the need to redirect focus amid the Black Stars’ exit, emphasizes the achievements of the female teams, particularly the recently qualified Black Princesses for the U20 Women’s World Cup.

“It’s time to focus on the female teams. The Black Princesses have qualified for the U20 Women’s World Cup. Last year the Black Queens won all their games except one. Give them the funding they need, give them the support,” urged Naa Ashorkor in a tweet.

As conversations about the future of Ghanaian football unfold following the Black Stars’ AFCON exit, Ashorkor’s timely appeal stresses that football success extends beyond male squads.

The accomplishments of the Black Princesses and the outstanding performance of the Black Queens last year underscore the potential and prowess of Ghanaian female footballers.

While acknowledging the palpable disappointment of the Black Stars’ AFCON elimination, Ashorkor views it as an opportunity to shift the spotlight towards the successes of the female teams.

Her plea highlights the significance of recognizing and investing in the talent within Ghana’s female football community.

In the previous year, the Black Queens showcased strength and determination by winning all but one of their games.

Ashorkor contends that providing essential funding and support to these teams will not only elevate their global standing but also contribute to the overall development of women’s football in the country.

As global discussions on gender equality in sports gain momentum, Ashorkor’s call aligns with the broader movement advocating for equal opportunities for female athletes.

Ghana’s football culture, a source of national pride, can be further enriched by channelling resources towards the female teams.

Naa Ashorkor’s appeal serves as a rallying cry for stakeholders to unite and invest in the promising future of Ghanaian female football.
