‘It was a great treatment, beautiful’ – Rema on alleged $3m Indian wedding performance fee

During a recent interview with GRM, Nigerian singer Rema responded to reports of receiving a staggering $3 million for his performance at the lavish wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in India.

Though he didn’t delve into details, he acknowledged the payment with a playful “Hehehe. That’s what I can say, to be honest.”

Rema shared his deep affection for India and its people, reflecting on the overwhelming reception he experienced during his tour.

He emphasized the groundbreaking nature of his achievement, noting that he might be the first Afrobeat artist and possibly the first African artist—to tour India.

Expressing gratitude for the support he’s received, Rema remarked, “I love India. India loves me, too. It’s just beautiful to see how something I was once trolled for has now become a source of success. Imagine if I had let the negativity change my sound four years later, it’s still paying off, and there’s more to come.”

Rema also recounted the unexpected level of recognition he encountered across India, where paparazzi followed him even during casual outings.

He described the love and attention as surpassing even what he experiences in Nigeria, underscoring the significance of his connection with the Indian audience.
