Ghana Police Service has taken action against alleged misconduct by one of its officers, Chief Inspector Benjamin Doe Kuwornu, stationed in the Central Region. In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the Police Service announced Kuwornu’s interdiction pending a thorough investigation into a video circulating online, where he is purportedly seen engaging in misconduct.
The video in question, which has since surfaced on GhanaWeb, depicts a man identified as Chief Inspector Kuwornu, stationed at Assin Fosu in the Central Region, making critical remarks against President Akufo-Addo. In the footage, filmed at a beer bar, the officer can be heard expressing his desire to meet with the President to discuss what he perceives as misgovernance.
“Mr. President, I want to meet you because I have a discussion. We are saying Mr. President, you are destroying our nation, Mr. President, you have destroyed our nation,” the officer is heard saying in the video.
The officer accuses President Akufo-Addo of incompetence and mismanagement of state resources, alleging that the President has crippled state institutions and neglected the interests of the nation. He calls upon leaders within the nation’s security services to speak out against what he perceives as a lack of effective governance.
“Because we have a role to play; we have a charge to keep. Is it not the president who said that we must be citizens not spectators?” the officer questions in the video.
Chief Inspector Doe further alleges that President Akufo-Addo’s administration has led to the destruction of businesses and state institutions, accusing the government of favoritism towards family and friends in its governance approach.
