Presidential aspirant Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Freedom Jacob Caesar or Cheddar and the leader of The New Force Movement, has unveiled an ambitious vision to extend the sea from Ghana’s coast to the landlocked Ashanti Region.
This bold proposal aims to unlock the potential of Ghana’s Eastern and Western Corridors, thereby enhancing international trade.
During an interview with Kojo Marfo on Abusua 96.5 FM in Kumasi, Bediako elaborated on his plan, citing examples of other nations extending maritime transport routes inland.
He drew inspiration from Dubai’s remarkable transformation from a desert landscape to a coastal city, illustrating the potential for similar achievements in Ghana.
“Why are we still transporting individual containers by road when the sea could offer a faster and more efficient means?” Bediako questioned.
He emphasized the shortcomings of the existing system, noting that goods transported by road frequently arrive damaged or spoiled after the six-hour journey from Tema Harbour to Kumasi.
“I want to open up the East and Western Corridor infrastructure,” Bediako emphasized.
“I want to build power stations, energy stations, connect the gas, create industries, and bring technology.”
Advocating for a transition towards value addition and local manufacturing, Bediako urged Ghana to manufacture its own electronic devices using domestic resources like lithium and plastics.
As part of his nationwide tour, termed a listening tour, Bediako is dedicating five days to engage with ordinary Ghanaians in the Ashanti Region, integrating their visions and aspirations into his manifesto for the upcoming national election in December.
