In a recent development, Gabby Otchere Darko, a prominent political figure of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has clarified his position on accusations related to the then former President John Dramani Mahama‘s administration.
Contrary to previous reports, Otchere Darko has explicitly asserted that he never accused Mahama of running a “family and friends” administration.
The clarification comes after various media outlets reported on statements attributed to Otchere Darko, suggesting that he had criticized the former president for allegedly appointing close relatives and friends to key positions during his tenure.
However, in an exclusive interview on Star FM, Otchere Darko vehemently denied making any such accusations.
“Whoever it is should bring the evidence if I ever said so. I have over 3000 cousins, and I am not going to castigate someone over family and friends. Never, never. It is impossible for people who had no role to play to suddenly emerge, and just because they share a blood relation, they must be appointed,” Otchere Darko asserted.
He went on to highlight how absurd it is to judge people only on the basis of their family relationships, casting doubt on the veracity of any criticism of President Akufo-Addo’s appointments.
“Name me one person in this government(NPP) appointed solely due to a blood relation, not because of their contribution to the party’s victory or their subsequent ability to contribute to the nation. I challenge anyone with information or evidence to the contrary,” Otchere Darko stated.
