Former President John Dramani Mahama has joined in the recent commendations for the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).

The facility has received significant praise on social media, particularly after serving as a key referral center for public figures like Kuami Eugene and KK Fosu following their separate accidents.

Additionally, a video recently circulated showing a lady who visited the UGMC and shared a positive review about its services and staff.

In a post on X dated June 14, 2024, Mahama expressed his excitement upon seeing these positive reviews.

“Whenever I visit patients in hospitals or read reviews on people’s lived experiences at the UGMC, I feel proud of our work in government. I am poised to do more.

“My track record in infrastructure development is well acknowledged. We shall provide more. It is a track record that built the Ghana National Gas Company and many power plants to fix dumsor.

“It is a solid track record of building ultramodern hospitals such as the UGMC, the Ridge Hospital, the Bank Hospital, the Maritime Hospital, the Dodowa Hospital, and several others across the country,” the post concluded.

About UGMC:

The establishment of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) was initiated by the Education, Finance, and Health Ministries, with the Ministry of Health ultimately signing the commercial contract in November 2012.

Construction of the Centre began under the late former President of Ghana, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, in April 2013.

Phase I of the UGMC project, which involved the Sheba Medical Centre from Israel as the medical planning consultants, was inaugurated by former President John Mahama in 2017.

While waiting for the commercial agreement to commence Phase II, the Centre started partial operations in 2018 during the tenure of the current president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
