Human rights activist denies appealing Bobrisky’s conviction

Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has refuted claims that he filed an appeal against the conviction of popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.

Speaking exclusively in a telephone interview on Monday, Adeyanju clarified that he is neither Bobrisky’s attorney nor has he submitted any appeal on Bobrisky’s behalf.

“I haven’t lodged any appeal for Bobrisky. I’m not representing him in any legal matter,” Adeyanju stated.

Bobrisky was recently arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on charges related to the misuse of the naira and money laundering.

Although the court dismissed the money laundering charges, Bobrisky was convicted on four counts of naira misuse, to which he pleaded guilty.

Following his guilty plea, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine on April 12.

Reports had surfaced claiming that Bobrisky appealed his sentence, seeking to overturn the six-month imprisonment term.
