Reports suggest that Lance Corporal Francis Adusei, stationed at the Service Workshop, allegedly shot himself with a service rifle at his residence in the Atomic Police Barracks, Kwabenya.
According to a police report, the incident occurred around 8:45 am on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Neighbors heard a gunshot from Block 3, Room No. 10B, and upon investigation, found Adusei with a gunshot wound inflicted by an AK47 assault rifle (serial number GHGP/58NHQ/PU/AZ6303 – 205). Bloodstains were observed on the bedspread and floor.
At the scene, an empty shell and a round of AK47 ammunition were discovered in his bedroom.
The rifle was located on the bed, and the room was locked from the inside.
Mr Adusei received initial medical treatment at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission Hospital (GAEC) before being transferred to the emergency ward of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where he later passed away.
His body was moved to the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation pending an autopsy.
