The Bui Power Authority has presented a 20-seat toilet facility to the Tsiaveme, a community located in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region.

This initiative, costing GHC 650,000, reflects the corporation’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and aims to enhance sanitation accessibility in the local farming community.

“Bui Power believes that access to a basic toilet facility is very important,” he said while noting the project’s essence in ending open defecation, and asked to extend the attached borehole to their homes.

During the event, the CEO emphasized that the completion of the project symbolized progress and acted as a catalyst for development. He urged the community to maintain the facility to the highest standards to ensure its longevity. This project is just one of many interventions taking place in communities nationwide, showcasing the Authority’s commitment to improving living conditions.

The atmosphere during the event was filled with excitement as community members, along with residents from neighboring areas, were overjoyed. They eagerly explored the washrooms, reveling in the newfound luxury and convenience they provided.

Mr. Anthony Avorgbedor, the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, praised the facility, highlighting its uniqueness. He emphasized the importance of maintaining it as a means to encourage the Authority to continue supporting the municipality. He also expressed his confidence that the community, previously plagued by high rates of open defecation, would experience a significant transformation. He extended his gratitude to the CEO for honoring the municipality with this initiative.

Representing the community’s traditional leaders, Chief Linguist Nordzro pledged a strong commitment to maintaining the facility for the benefit of future generations. He cautioned users against misusing the facilities and warned that traditional laws would be enforced to ensure their proper use in improving sanitation within the area.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Samuel Agbesi Amable, the Assembly member of the community, highlighted the negative impact of poor sanitation resulting from the lack of suitable toilet facilities. He mentioned that this led to an increase in open defecation, which in turn had adverse health and economic consequences. He expressed gratitude for the provision of the mechanized borehole, which brought significant relief to the community’s water needs.

The Assembly Member took the opportunity to appeal for additional boreholes to be installed in the community, expressing gratitude to the company and its CEO for their generosity and concern for the well-being of the community.

He emphasized the importance of reliable water sources in meeting the needs of the residents and further improving their living conditions.

Mr. Cephas Horsu, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, echoed the Assembly Member’s sentiments and supported the call for refuse services in the community.

He recognized the significance of proper waste management in advancing sanitation outcomes and emphasized the need for dedicated refuse collection services to be implemented.

This would contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for the community, further enhancing their overall well-being.
