While Ghanaians worldwide expressed happiness and support for Afua Asantewaa’s quest to achieve a Guinness World Record for Ghana, there were, as expected, some dissenting voices.

Certain well-known media personalities, considered knowledgeable about challenges of this nature and the necessary support, added a negative vibe to the Singathon challenge before, during, and after its successful conclusion.

A seasoned Ghanaian musician and the present chairman of the Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO), faced a wave of criticism following his controversial remarks during an interview with Kafui Dey on Ghana Television.

In this interview, he claimed that his office had the power to discontinue the Singathon on grounds of copyright infringement.

He insisted that Afua Asantewaa and her team were required to provide a list of songs she intended to perform for her challenge.

This demand was met with disapproval from the supportive Ghanaian public. Subsequently, when Afua complied and submitted the playlist, Rex Omar controversially disclosed it to the public. He later issued an apology for this action.

Black Rasta

Black Rasta, a seasoned Ghanaian reggae and roots musician affiliated with Media General’s 3FM, has consistently opposed Afua Asantewaa’s aspirations from the very beginning. He expressed concerns, citing research suggesting potential health risks, asserting that attempting to go without sleep for over 100 hours could lead to disaster. Despite the controversy, Black Rasta has not issued an apology and continues to stand by his critical comments.

Zapp Mallet

Zapp Mallet, a prominent Ghanaian record producer and musician, faced backlash for his tweets during the Singathon session. The award-winning producer questioned the value of Afua Asantewaa’s efforts, suggesting she should stop and eat instead. Ignorant of the challenge’s rules, Mallet criticized Asantewaa’s song choices and performance. He later issued an apology after being educated about the event.

Kwasi Aboagye

Kwasi Aboagye, a controversial radio personality from Peace FM, a Despite Media radio station, is known for his tendency to generate trends through controversies. Aboagye faced social media backlash for making unfavorable remarks about Afua Asantewaa and her Singathon during his show. He advised Asantewaa to cease her efforts, pack up, and go home for more rehearsals, citing what he perceived as a poor voice. After receiving criticism from netizens for his comments, Aboagye promptly issued an apology.
