Hector Cuper, a former head coach of Egypt, and two other candidates are said to have made the shortlist for the vacant coaching position with the Black Stars.
The other two managers are Steve McClaren, an assistant manager at Manchester United, and Chris Hughton, a former coach of Tottenham Hotspurs.
According to the report, Otto Addo, who left his position after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, would be replaced by one of the aforementioned managers by the Ghana Football Association.
Hector Cuper and Chris Hughton are the two currently unattached among the three coaches.
Cuper was fired from his position as coach of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in June 2022, while Chris Hughton departed his position as technical advisor to the Black Stars in December 2022 after his contract expired.
Henry Asante Twum, a representative for the GFA, stated in a recent interview that the FA will name a new coach by the end of January 2023.
“I think it will be this month. From the conversations going on it is very likely a new head coach of the Black Stars will be appointed this month. There will be an ExCo meeting soon and everything will be finalized there,” he told Asempa FM.
He also noted that the GFA has received over 60 applications for the Black Stars coaching role.
“Maybe over 60 applications. The Black Stars is very attractive. You cannot have Mohammed Kudus in your team and think the Black Stars are not attractive. It is an attractive brand, no doubt about that,” he said.
