The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) would like to notify the public that as of January 15, 2024, the field data collection for the 2024 Ghana Integrated Business Establishment Survey Phase I (IBES I) has officially started.
The Service has trained and deployed approximately fourteen thousand (14,000) Field Officers nationwide for this data collection initiative.
IBES I is designed to encompass a comprehensive list of all business entities across the country.
During the field data collection period, the Field Officers will visit every structure and space in their assigned areas to enumerate all identified business entities.
This includes businesses operating in structures, those in open spaces, mobile businesses, and virtual businesses. Thus, the survey aims to cover all business entities conducting activities in Ghana, irrespective of location, status, or size.
The primary objective of IBES I is to compile a comprehensive list of businesses, capturing essential characteristics that contribute to the development of a robust Statistical Business Register and other key statistical indicators, ultimately enhancing national development. Key outcomes of IBES I include:

- Providing updated data on the activities, locations, ownership, ages, and sizes of businesses to inform policy, planning, and the monitoring of business growth and national development programs.
2. Facilitating the revision of key macroeconomic indicators such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Producer Price Index (PPI), and the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) by capturing the current structure of Ghana’s economy.
3. Assessing the employment status of workers employed by businesses to bridge the gap between firms’ labor needs and available skills.
4. Investigating the characteristics of the informal sector to guide the development of policies aimed at formalizing the economy and improving the welfare of workers in various sectors.
The public is advised that Field Officers can be identified by their Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES) Vests and Identification Cards. Cooperation from the public is encouraged to ensure the success of the field data collection exercise.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) expresses gratitude to institutions, organizations, and individuals for the support received and seeks further cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of this crucial national exercise.
