Growing up, I was treated badly because of my fair skin – Adina Thembi

Adina Thembi Ndamse, popularly known as ‘Adina,’ opened up about the prejudice she faced growing up due to her fair skin.

In an interview with Amansan Krakye on Property FM, the ‘Killing Me Softly’ singer shared how people in her neighborhood unfairly labeled her as disrespectful and a troublemaker solely based on her appearance.

She recalled how her mother often received warnings from neighbors to keep a close watch on her, simply because of her light complexion.

Adina expressed her hurt at these judgments, noting that despite being a well-behaved and innocent child, people quickly assumed the worst about her based on her looks alone.

“I’ve had instances where in the area people used to tell my mother to keep a close eye on me just because I was very fair in complexion,” she revealed on Cape Coast-based Property FM

She continued, “When my mother used to tell me about the complaints she had received about me, I felt so hurt because I was just an innocent young girl, but just because of the way God has created me the moment you set your eyes on me you’d conclude that I’ll be a very bad girl or disrespectful.”
