Group petitions Akufo-Addo, NPP HQ to settle land dispute between Abu Ramadan and a party financier

A faction within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), calling itself the Coalition of Concerned Members, has formally petitioned the party’s national headquarters and the presidency regarding a land dispute involving Mr. George Oti Bonsu and Abu Ramadan, a relative of Second Lady Samira Bawumia.

This petition, dated July 10, 2024, underscored the urgency of resolving the issue given the upcoming December elections.

The group highlights Mr. Oti Bonsu’s role as a key party financier and expresses concern that his recent loss through the alleged demolition of ten of his properties in Adjiringanor, Accra could impact party support.

The demolition, which occurred on April 7, 2024, was reportedly linked to Abu Ramadan, though the Second Lady’s office has denied any involvement.

The petition emphasizes the significant financial loss Mr. Oti Bonsu suffered, estimated at $3.5 million, and calls for prompt action to address the dispute.

The coalition warns that failing to resolve the matter could alienate key supporters and undermine the party’s efforts to retain power in the upcoming elections.

The letter is addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Second Lady Samira Bawumia, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, NPP National Chairman Stephen Ntim, and the involved parties.

It is signed by Rev. (Rtd) Dickson Kankam Boadu, Nana Ekow Annan Nyarko, Francis Tosu, Zakaria Sulemana, and Madam Cynthia Akumoa Boateng.

“Indeed, the ordinary party member is alarmed that if the above-mentioned excruciating pain was unleashed on a distinguished financier of our great party without any action taken by the party leadership, then what would be the portion of the foot soldiers and ordinary card-bearing members like us?” the group queried in their letter.

It is against this backdrop that we, the Coalition of Concerned Members of the New Patriotic Party hereby make a passionate appeal to your highly respected office to take conscious and concerted steps to resolve this ravaging impasse between Mr George Oti Bonsu and Mr Abu Ramadan as early as practicable.

We are critically worried because our great party is preparing zealously for re-election in less than six months, and we need every party member’s intellectual, financial, physical, and logistical support to retain power” the group noted.

“This petition is duly signed by the leaders of the coalition who are loyal card-bearing members of the NPP and are in good standing, registered voters, and others working diligently behind closed doors to address this disturbing issue, hereby petition you accordingly for redress” the letter concluded.
