Ghanaian boxer Mohammed Aryeetey downed by Mexico’s Velasquez in USA

Ghanaian boxer Mohammed Aryeetey suffered a loss by majority decision against Mexican boxer Andy Dominguez Velasquez in their 6-round flyweight bout held at the Sony Hall in New York City, USA.

Aryeetey displayed a determined defence throughout the fight, as his Mexican opponent launched a vigorous assault right from the start of the match.

Despite his aspirations for a knockout victory, Aryeetey found Velasquez to be a skillful and elusive opponent in the ring.

Benefiting from the support of his home crowd, the Mexican boxer accrued more points during the bout, while Aryeetey tried to retaliate with significant punches.

After six rounds of intense exchanges, the judges rendered their decision in favour of the Mexican fighter.

Two judges scored the contest 58-56 in favour of the winner, while the third judge declared it a 57-57 draw.

This defeat ends Mohammed Aryeetey’s undefeated streak since turning professional. The 20-year-old Ghanaian, who still holds tremendous potential, boasts an impressive record of seven wins and one defeat in a total of nine fights.

Looking forward, Aryeetey is likely to strive for a swift comeback in the ring, determined to recover from his initial career setback.
