Ghana has witnessed significant transformation of the Police under Akufo-Addo’s govt – Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lauded the substantial advancements in the Ghana Police Service under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Ghana Police Service Shop on July 17, Dr. Bawumia praised the transformative initiatives spearheaded by Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, which have markedly improved public safety and enhanced the relationship between the Police Service and the community.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted that the reforms introduced by Dr. Dampare and his management team have led to significant improvements in policing and community engagement. He expressed pride in the achievements of the Police Service, which have made a tangible impact on national security and public trust.

“The people of Ghana have witnessed a remarkable transformation in the Police Service under this administration,” Dr. Bawumia remarked.

He noted several key improvements, including the facelift of the National Police Headquarters, the expansion and decentralisation of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) to all 25 Police Regions, increased police visibility, and the decentralisation of police background checks. A

dditionally, active community and stakeholder engagements have brought policing closer to the people, alongside enhanced intelligence operations, uniform uniformity, and the Snatch Them Young Policing Initiative aimed at school children.

Dr. Bawumia commended the IGP, the Police Management Board, and all officers for their efforts under the Police transformation agenda. He urged them to continue their excellent work, especially as Ghana prepares for the general elections on December 7th.

The commissioning of the Police Service Shop, a new facility at the Police Headquarters, marks another step towards enhancing the operational efficiency and professionalism of the Ghana Police Service. The shop provides officers with additional uniform items and institutional souvenirs, supporting both their daily duties and official events.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that the Police Service remains responsive, accountable, and operationally effective, reflecting the government’s commitment to transforming national security.
