GES to recruit 8,872 staff starting September

The Ghana Education Service (GES ) is recruiting 8,872 staff in order to meet the demands of the double track educational system which takes off in September this year.

Applications for the classroom teachers is open to graduate teachers from the universities who have completed their national service and wish to be recruited by the GES as teachers.

Applicants who intend to apply for the position of classroom teachers will be required to log onto www.gespromotions.gov.gh to fill an online application form.

Regional breakdowns

The GES has done an audit assessment of the needs of the schools, with the Eastern Region requiring about 1,812 new teachers, representing the highest number, while the Ashanti Region follows with 1,203.

The Central Region requires 912 while the Northern, Brong Ahafo, Volta and Greater Accra regions require 683, 682, 634 and 525 respectively.

The Western, Upper East and Upper West regions follow with 534, 284 and 361 respectively.

Subjects

In an exclusive interview, the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the GES, Ms Cassandra Ampofo Twum, explained that all subjects taught at the senior high schools (SHSs) would be requiring new teachers.

She said for Core Mathematics for instance, about 819 new teachers would be required, while Elective Maths would require 276 new teachers. About 793 new teachers would be required for English Language.

For Integrated Science, 606 new teachers will be required, while 366 will be required for Social Studies.

Technical and vocation

Ms Twum said the vacancies also included teachers for technical and vocational institution subjects such as Applied Electricity, Applied Electronic, Architectural Drafting, Automobile Engineering, Basketry, Building & Construction Leather Workers, Metal Works and Motor Vehicle Technicians.

She explained that the deadline for the submission of the application would be September 1, 2018, adding that the recruitment process for non-teaching staff would be announced in due course.

Test and posting

Ms Twum said those shortlisted would be required to write a test to determine their suitability for the advertised positions.

“Applicants should note that the GES reserves the right to post them upon recruitment to places where their services will be needed.

“The GES has no obligation to recruit any applicant as that shall be determined by the Director-General of the GES,” she explained.
