No new or renovated airport is a product of NPP’s initiatives – NDC

The Minority Chief Whip, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Governs Agbodza, has not been responsible for initiating any new airport projects in Ghana.

In an interview with TV3 in Tamale during the NDC’s campaign launch on July 27, 2024, Agbodza made it clear that the current NPP administration cannot claim credit for any new or rehabilitated airports in the country.

He emphasized that the expansion and development of airports currently underway were started by the previous Mahama administration and completed by the NPP.

“There is no airport in Ghana that is the brainchild of the NPP. President Mahama rehabilitated Kotoka Terminal 2, and Terminal 3 was entirely new under his administration. The phases of Kumasi Airport that are now completed were also started during Mahama’s tenure and finished by the NPP.”

Agbodza explained that the vision for these airports did not originate with the NPP. For example, Tamale Airport, which features the longest runway in Ghana, was planned long before the NPP’s tenure.

He also underscored the importance of the Northern Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Our party has historically received tremendous support from this region. We have prioritized development efforts here whenever in power, focusing on infrastructure such as roads and airports, as well as critical interventions in water supply and agriculture. Despite attempts by our opponents to distract us, we remain steadfast in delivering our message and focusing on the needs of the people,” he said.
