Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed his condolences following the passing of Akua Donkor, the Ghana Freedom Party’s (GFP) candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
In a heartfelt tribute shared on Facebook, Dr. Bawumia recognised Madam Donkor’s role in advancing democracy in Ghana. He also conveyed his sympathies to her family and the GFP during this difficult time.
“I write to commiserate with the family and political party of Madam Akua Donkor, who until her death was the 2024 presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party.
She played her part in consolidating our democracy. May the soul of Madam Akua Donkor rest in peace,” he mourned.
Akua Donkor was among the 13 candidates approved by the Electoral Commission (EC) to participate in the presidential elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
She sadly passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, after a brief illness.
In response to her death, the EC has halted the printing of ballot papers for the upcoming presidential election and has provided the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) with a 10-day deadline to nominate a new candidate.
