Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reassured that the Free SHS policy will remain intact if John Dramani Mahama is elected president in the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections.
During her tour of the Abuakwa North constituency in the Eastern Region, specifically at New Tafo Zongo, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang addressed supporters and debunked rumors suggesting that Mr. Mahama would abolish the free education policy. She categorically labeled these rumors as false and misleading.
Emphasizing that it was under the NDC administration that the progressively free education system was initiated, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang affirmed that they have no intention to dismantle the current policy.
She challenged those spreading misinformation to substantiate their claims with evidence, asserting that there is no factual basis for accusing the NDC flagbearer of such intentions.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reiterated the NDC’s steadfast commitment to education, stating their aim to strengthen and improve the existing free education system.
She outlined plans to address challenges in the education sector, ensuring adequate infrastructure and access to educational resources for all students.
If elected, she pledged that the NDC would focus on enhancing the effectiveness and benefits of the free education policy, underscoring their dedication to providing quality education for Ghanaian students.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s statements come amidst ongoing parliamentary debates concerning the Free SHS bill, highlighting the policy’s importance in national discussions as the election approaches.
