Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ahmed Mustapha, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, according to reports from the Herald newspaper.
He succumbed to a long-term illness that he had been battling for several months.
At the age of 63, Dr. Ahmed Mustapha served as Ghana’s sports minister for a brief period in 2015, stepping into the role following the resignation of Mahama Ayariga amidst controversy over the budget for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Before his tenure as Sports Minister, Dr. Ahmed Mustapha served as a Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso East Constituency from 2001 to 2013 under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Additionally, The Herald provided further insights into his background, noting that he was a retired military officer and a dentist who worked at the 37 Military Hospital. He also established and operated a dental clinic in Maamobi, Accra.
Dr. Ahmed Mustapha is survived by his wife and three children.
