Prior to being officially recognized by the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest singing marathon, entrepreneur and media personality Afua Asantewaa declared she would hold highlife musician Kuami Eugene accountable in the event that she was disqualified.
During an interview with Hitz FM in January 2024, Asantewaa revealed that encountering Kuami Eugene at the sing-a-thon venue led to a momentary lapse in memory, forgetting lyrics to ‘Asuoden,’ a song by Sista Afia featuring the artist.
Despite the initial setback, Asantewaa triumphantly concluded her attempt with a new record of 126 hours, 52 mins, thanking supporters on her Facebook page.
However, she jokingly mentioned that if disqualified, she would blame Kuami Eugene for her distraction during the marathon.
“Kuami Eugene is my crush. That guy came and I forgot my lyrics. I said to myself that he was going to disturb me with his presence. If the Guinness Book of Records does not give me the record, it is Kwami Eugene. My husband knows I have a crush on him so when he got there, I said he shouldn’t have been there. I couldn’t remember his lyrics to ‘Asuoden’. I just like him”, she said in a video shared by SikaOfficial on X.
However, Afua Asantewaa, a contender for the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest individual singing marathon, was officially disqualified.
According to a tweet, on their social media page, GWR disclosed that Afua’s attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful but hoped she would attempt another record soon.
“Unfortunately Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans. The evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority service, so we refunded her payment earlier this month. We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts” GWR tweeted in response to a fan’s question about Afua’s record.
Afua Asantewaa endured a five-day singing marathon that commenced at midnight on Sunday, December 24 and concluded at 7:00 am on December 29.
At the time of ending her record attempt on Friday morning, the young woman had sung for five days, six hours, and 55 minutes.
