Five individuals have perished while crossing across the English Channel

French media reports that 5 people died crossing the English Channel after the UK approved a bill to deport migrants.

The Voix du Nord newspaper reported that the bodies were found on the Wimereaux beach in northern France on Tuesday. The rescue mission is still happening. They are using helicopters and boats, as reported by the local newspaper.

About 100 people who were trying to move to a new country have been saved and put on a French navy boat. The newspaper said they will be brought to the port of Boulogne.

This happened just a few hours after British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s latest plan to send some migrants to Rwanda was approved by Parliament. The UK government wants to send back people who come into the country illegally. They hope this will stop other people from trying to come to Britain in dangerous boats to ask for asylum.

Human rights groups say the law is very mean and unkind. The United Nations and the Council of Europe asked the UK to reconsider its plans because they are worried it could hurt efforts to work together to help migrants around the world.

People trying to cross the busy English Channel face many dangers like drowning and their boats sinking. The boats are usually crowded and it can be really dangerous.

Around 30,000 people crossed in 2023, according to the UK government.
