Fire fighter to spend two days in jail for beating court bailiff

A Fire Service Officer, Emmanuel Ayitah Quansah, has been sentenced to a two-day imprisonment by the Accra High Court for assaulting a court bailiff.

Mr. Ayitah was charged with contempt of court after physically attacking the bailiff, who was charged to deliver legal documents related to a civil case.

Justice Sarah Aryee in her ruling emphasized the importance of discouraging any form of assault on judicial officers.

“This canker has to be nipped in the bud. The Respondent is found guilty of contempt of Court since he failed to purge himself when the court gave him the opportunity to do so before the court.,” the court ordered.
