An explosive device was thrown onto The Satanic Temple’s porch in Massachusetts when it was unoccupied. The bomb wasn’t found until almost 12 hours later.
The state police bomb experts made sure that the device was not dangerous anymore. According to the police in a news release on Monday, the Police dogs searched the area for more bombs and the federal agency helped. The FBI’s team for fighting terrorism is helping with the investigation.
The explosive device was thrown onto the porch at 4:14 am on Monday and wasn’t found until staff came at around 4 pm, according to the police.
The police did not say how much damage there was.
The police have been to the temple before because of bomb threats and hate crimes. In 2022, a man said he didn’t set fire to a building, even though he was accused of doing it. He was charged with arson, destroying a place of worship, and violating people’s civil rights.
In January, a man was accused of breaking a statue of a pagan god at Iowa’s state Capitol, and was charged with a hate crime. It was put there by the Satanic Temple of Iowa because the state allows religious displays in the building during the holidays.
Established in 2013, the Satanic Temple, which is located in Salem, Massachusetts, does not actually believe in Satan. Instead, it is a non-theistic religious group that promotes secularism. It is not the same as the Church of Satan, which started in the 1960s.
