I was a nobody when I met Chioma – Davido

Nigerian artist Davido has shared insights into his relationship with his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, revealing that they met when he was facing financial challenges.

Contrary to the common narrative of struggling to find genuine love amidst fame and wealth, Davido considers himself fortunate to have encountered Chioma before achieving celebrity status.

He believes that meeting her during that period was crucial, as it allowed him to establish a genuine connection without the pressure of wealth influencing their relationship.

Davido also expressed gratitude for having a close-knit circle of friends who knew him before he became famous, highlighting the importance of authenticity in his relationships.

In his words; “I have a friend, anytime I am on the phone with my wife, he would say he has everything in the world, but a wife is what he is missing. I met my wife before I had money, but I was telling myself if I didn’t meet her before then and now I am single and I meet a girl, it wouldn’t be the same. I would feel the lady is talking to me because I am Davido and I have money.

“My success is when I see people around who were there when I had nothing and they see me now, that’s the feeling, not like when you blow up and start hanging out with a new set of people. You need to keep the people that were there with you since grinding.”

Expanding on the story, Chioma revealed that her initial encounter with Davido took place during their time in school. She recalled being introduced to him by a mutual friend who happened to be dating one of Davido’s acquaintances.
