I lost my elder sister due to a nurse’s lack of urgency – Andy Dosty

Media personality Andy Dosty recently shared a heartbreaking incident involving the loss of his elder sister at Tema General Hospital due to a nurse’s lack of urgency.

Dosty recounted how the nurse, despite pleas, refused to administer medication because the next nurse had not yet arrived for duty.

“At the Tema General Hospital, my elder sister was admitted there for treatment so I used to visit her a lot. One day, there was a nurse who was supposed to administer medication to her, but he refused, saying he had closed.

“I pleaded with him to do it because the next person on duty had not reported yet, but he was adamant not to attend to her. When I left to speak to my sister, the guy left the office,” Andy Dosty said while speaking on the Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.

Dosty expressed his helplessness during the situation, emphasising the critical need for timely medical care.

“I confronted him [the nurse] on his way home to be sensitive to the situation… The following day, I was in the studio preparing for an interview with Stonebwoy when I was informed my sister had passed away.”

He shared this experience while discussing the unfortunate passing of gospel musician KODA, whose case raised concerns about medical accountability.

The media personality’s revelation sheds light on the challenges individuals face in healthcare systems and the importance of swift and responsible medical attention.

KODA’s health issues

KODA was battling with a condition called G6PD deficiency. While it has not been established that it was the cause of his death, the musician in a video that has gone viral said he took the wrong medication for eight months.

He spoke about how he had been given the wrong medication at an unnamed Takoradi-based hospital during one episode that he suffered, stressing how that incident changed him forever in terms of demanding answers on his health.

He said after he had been treated over two days and released back in 2016 thereabout, “I started developing some funny, funny symptoms here and there over time and I noticed something was not right.

“So, I remember one day being bold enough to google the medication I was given and I noticed that one major element that I was asked to take was a Sulphur-based medication and immediately I told myself that I had a medical condition called G6PD.

“I know for sure that Sulphur is one of the things that I am not supposed to take. Why, the people, they want kill me or what? Because I had taken the medication for over 6 close to 8 months,” he added.
