Ignatius Amoah, Chief of Staff of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Student Representative Council (SRC), has confirmed that the individual affected by an electrocution incident during Black Sherif’s performance is recovering well.
Contrary to some reports, Amoah clarified that only one female fan was injured, not two as previously claimed.
The non-student victim was promptly taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition.
In an August 20, 2024 interview with Peace FM, Amoah mentioned that the SRC is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the electrocution.
He assured that measures are being taken to address and rectify any technical issues that contributed to the incident. The investigation is currently underway.
“It was one female fan who was electrocuted, but we took her to the hospital, and she is now recovering well. Our president has initiated measures to investigate the technical issues that led to the electrocution and resolve them. The probe is ongoing,” he told Kwasi Aboagye during the interview.
Background
Black Sherif was seen leaving the event grounds at UMaT in Tarkwa, where he was scheduled to perform.
Reports indicated that poor planning and inadequate safety measures were to blame for the incident.
While on stage, Black Sherif witnessed two fans being electrocuted, with one in critical condition.
This prompted him to abruptly stop his performance and leave the venue in protest.
In a viral video, Black Sherif was seen heading straight to his car despite pleas from fans and organizers to continue his performance.
His departure left fans concerned, as they had waited six hours to see him perform.
However, the UMaT SRC has confirmed that the victim is now in stable condition.
