A member of the Legal Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, has leveled serious accusations against Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, alleging that the latter is betraying President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his own presidential ambitions.
Tamakloe’s comments come in the wake of Dr. Bawumia’s widely publicized lecture titled ‘Bold Solutions’ for the future, which Tamakloe interprets as a plot to undermine and discredit the current government led by President Akufo-Addo.
In an interview on NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’, Tamakloe expressed astonishment at Dr. Bawumia’s apparent departure from his role within the government. He questioned the vice president’s sudden posture, especially given his significant role as the chair of the Economic Management Team, which is responsible for shaping government policies and their implementation.
“Why is he today telling us otherwise?” Tamakloe queried, highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s self-description as the vice president of Ghana on his website, coupled with his position as the head of the Economic Management Team.
Tamakloe went on to describe Dr. Bawumia’s assertions in his ‘Bold Solutions’ speech as a “coup d’état” against President Akufo-Addo, indicating a perceived betrayal by the vice president.
These accusations by Tamakloe underscore the growing tensions within the political landscape of Ghana, particularly within the ruling party, as the country approaches the next presidential election.
It remains to be seen how Dr. Bawumia and the government will respond to these allegations, as they continue to navigate the complexities of governance and political dynamics leading up to the upcoming elections.
