Vehicles belonging to the Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service have been impounded to finance a judgement debt of over GH¢3 million to 102 teachers in the region.

The vehicles were forcedly acquired after the GES failed to pay over 5 years of salary arrears to the teachers, who sought legal redress as agreed.

This is not the first time such a thing has taken place.

In February this year, the Director’s vehicle, with registration number GC 5985-20 and other vehicles were impounded by the police, who assisted the court’s bailiffs in executing the Writ of Fieri Facias issued by the Koforidua High Court.

Twenty-seven vehicles belonging to the GES were to be auctioned to settle a judgement debt of over GH¢3 million.

The vehicles were, however, released as the directorate, together with the Attorney General’s department, signed an undertaking to settle the debt within a week.

According to reports, the two parties, however, failed to fulfil their obligations, which compelled the lawyer of the plaintiffs to secure another writ through which the vehicles of the GES Director, Regional Sports Director, New Juaben South Municipal Director, and Kwabeng Anglican Senior High/Tech have all been impounded.

One of the plaintiffs, Eric Effah, who spoke to the media, said, “they are on the hunt to impound a total of 27 vehicles.”
