The Upper West Region of Ghana was struck by another tragedy as the CEO of Jirapa Dubai, Mr Eric Johnson, fell victim to an assassination in his room on Saturday, February 10th, 2024.
This incident, reminiscent of the unsolved murder of former Assembly Member of Jirapa Kunkyene, Lawyer Richard Badombie, has reignited concerns over the security situation in the region.
Mr Johnson’s untimely demise sent shockwaves through the community, prompting swift action from law enforcement agencies. On February 11th, five individuals were apprehended by the Ghana Police Service to aid in the ongoing investigation. Mr. Johnson’s body now rests in the Upper West Regional Hospital Morgue, awaiting autopsy.
The circumstances surrounding Mr. Johnson’s death bear striking similarities to the assassination of Lawyer Badombie in May 2022. Prior to his death, Lawyer Badombie had expressed concerns about his safety on social media, raising suspicions of foul play.
Despite assurances from authorities and promises of justice, no arrests have been made in connection to his murder, leaving his family and the community bereaved and frustrated.
The lack of progress in resolving Lawyer Badombie’s case has fueled speculation and criticism, with many questioning the efficacy of law enforcement efforts.
Several individuals believe that Mr Johnson’s tragic fate could have been prevented if decisive action had been taken following Lawyer Badombie’s assassination.
Reflecting on Lawyer Badombie’s funeral held on July 9th, 2022, in Kunchene, Jirapa, the sense of loss and injustice remains palpable. The Ghana Police Service had vowed to pursue the armed robbers responsible for his death, but to date, the culprits remain at large.
In light of Mr. Johnson’s tragic fate, calls for action have intensified, with demands for a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of those responsible.
