Dex Carvey, the son of Dana Carvey, passed away at home due to an “accidental drug overdose,” as revealed by the former Saturday Night Live star and his wife in an announcement on Wednesday night.
He was 32.
“Dex packed a lot into those 32 years,” Carvey and his wife of 40 years, Paula Zwagerman, wrote in a signed post on X (formerly Twitter). “He was extremely talented at so many things—music, art, filmmaking, comedy—and pursued all of them passionately.
Dex Carvey was pronounced dead at home, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. TMZ reported that his girlfriend, Kaylee, called paramedics when he seemingly locked himself in the bathroom. The official cause of death has yet to be determined.
In the vein of Wayne’s world-famous father, Dex pursued a career in comedy.
He not only opened for his father’s 2016 Netflix special, “Straight White Male,” but also made appearances in the 2013 miniseries “The Funster” and “Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser” (2015).
Surviving Dex is his younger brother, Thomas, and the grieving family awaits conclusive findings on the cause of his untimely demise.
