Damapre tried to kill me through lethal injection – Owusu-Bempah alleges

Founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has accused the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, of orchestrating an attempt on his life following his arrest in September 2021.

Speaking to his congregation on Sunday, September 22, 2024, Rev. Owusu-Bempah alleged that during his arrest by masked police officers, there was an attempt to inject him with a lethal substance, which he fought off.

He questioned why members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) continue to insult him, saying, “Why do NPP members keep insulting me? What wrong have I done them? You made the IGP arrest me and wanted to kill me; the IGP was going to kill me. Do you know the IGP was going to kill me? He was going to inject me to death, and Nana Akufo-Addo did nothing to him. He hasn’t been questioned on who the police officers that came for me deep in the night were,” he told his church.

Rev. Owusu-Bempah claimed to have evidence of the incident, stating that eight masked officers came for him while he was in custody.

“While in the cells, I saw the police officers come for me and put me in a pickup. I was placed between them with handcuffs on my hands. One of them sitting in front brought out a syringe and wanted to inject me… I held it tight, leading to a struggle, and as a result, the syringe broke. I kept shouting for those in the cells to hear me. Even one police officer who recently came home to corroborate this heard me,” he stated.

He further explained that he had instructed his brother and junior pastors to keep watch at the police station while he remained detained. In an additional claim, he revealed that the vehicle registration number on the pickup was traced back to an old Honda Accord through a search at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

“Do you know that our search at DVLA revealed that the number on the pickup belonged to an old Honda Accord? I am told that is the car that Dampare uses to pick people up and kill them. Dampare wants to kill me; can you, Dampare, kill me?” he questioned.

He recalled a conversation with former NPP General Secretary John Boadu at the time of his arrest.

“When I was being sent to the cells, John Boadu came there, and I asked him why they were treating me like that. He told me I shouldn’t be worried and that something would be done about it the next day. I called Chairman Wontumi, and he said the leaders are angry with me, and that it is only [Rev] Victor Kusi Boateng who can cause my release. So I said, what? Chairman, is that what you are telling me?

“I was detained for four days, but I still forgave you after your people came to beg me, and today you are allowing your people to attack me on the radio and lying about me conspiring with Stephen Wingam, leader of Assemblies of God and Archbishop, where? Don’t you know we are in an election year? Don’t you know God brought you to power through me in 2016 and 2020?” he questioned.

Rev. Owusu-Bempah mentioned that despite being detained for four days, he forgave the party members who came to apologize to him. However, he expressed frustration over ongoing radio attacks and false accusations linking him to conspiracies.

In a warning to the NPP, he urged them to stop attacking him, cautioning that their actions could negatively impact the party’s chances in upcoming elections.
