Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson was hospitalised after falling ill during Thursday morning’s training session.
Although he is reported to be in stable condition, Hodgson is currently undergoing tests.
As a result of Hodgson’s health scare, Palace opted to cancel their scheduled pre-match press conference, which was slated to occur before their upcoming Premier League fixture against Everton on Monday night.
A short statement from the Eagles at the time read: “Unfortunately, today’s press conference will no longer take place as scheduled as Roy Hodgson was taken ill during this morning’s training session.”
The club later clarified that 76-year-old Hodgson had been taken to the hospital.
“Following news that Roy Hodgson was taken ill during today’s training session, we can confirm that he is now stable and is currently undergoing tests in the hospital. Everybody at the club sends their best wishes to Roy for a speedy recovery,” a second Palace statement explained.
Roy Hodgson, a native of Croydon, initiated his football journey in the youth ranks of Crystal Palace in the early 1960s.
Following an illustrious 41-year managerial career that spanned various clubs across the globe, Hodgson fulfilled a lifelong dream by assuming the managerial reins of his boyhood team in 2017.
He remained at Selhurst Park until his departure in the summer of 2021.
The former England boss was expected to retire at that time, although while admitting that he was “stepping away from football for a while,” he refused to confirm it would be for good.
Following his departure from Crystal Palace, Roy Hodgson briefly filled a short-term role at Watford less than a year later. However, he was subsequently recruited by Palace in March 2023 to replace Patrick Vieira.
As speculation regarding his job security intensified due to recent poor results, Hodgson’s return to Palace garnered attention and scrutiny.
