The Achimota District Court has postponed the trial of Nana Barima Ababio, also known as Benlord Ababio, a self-proclaimed traditional ruler accused of fatally shooting a soldier in a land dispute near Kasoa.
The new date for the trial is now set for July 17, 2024, due to the absence of the trial judge who was on leave.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the police have not yet received the Bill of Indictment required to proceed with committal proceedings.
Benlord and his accomplice, Nana Kofi Kwakye, remain in custody facing charges of conspiracy, with Benlord also accused of murdering Lance Corporal Michael Danso. The court has reserved their pleas.
According to the prosecution, on April 30, 2024, at approximately 4:00 PM, Lance Corporal Michael Danso, accompanied by Lance Corporals Abdul Omar Rahman and Ametus Matthew, went to the Millennium City Police Station in a Toyota RAV4 to report a trespassing incident.
This followed reports that individuals were illegally developing land belonging to Lance Corporal Abdul Omar Rahman.
Upon their arrival at the police station, Benlord allegedly fired shots at Lance Corporal Michael Danso, who was driving the vehicle, resulting in his immediate death.
Benlord was swiftly arrested by the police and disarmed for further investigation.
