Although Commissioner of Police George Alex Mensah did not specify which political party’s ticket he intends to contest on, he had previously disclosed his sympathies for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the ad-hoc committee’s hearing.

In response to questions posed by Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, Eric Opoku, regarding statements he made in the leaked audio tape that indicated his affiliation with the NPP, COP George Alex Mensah acknowledged that his entire family has a longstanding commitment to the United Party (UP) tradition, from which the NPP emerged. This statement strongly suggests his alignment with the NPP, although he did not explicitly confirm his candidacy on their ticket.

“Mr. Chairman, my family has been with the UP tradition ever since I was born, and we’ve remained there till now,” he said.

He later added, “I am a sympathizer of the NPP.”

Eric Opoku: “So you’re not a member, you’re a sympathiser is that what you’re saying to this committee?”

COP Mensah: “Yes. Mr. Chairman. I’ve said it already.”
