Tension has arisen at the New Patriotic Party Headquarters following allegations that two National Security officials utilized the Asylum Down office for the receipt of a US$100,000 payment related to flight facilitation to Nicaragua.
The individuals in question, Ali Mohammed Kasule (commonly known as Aliu) and Robert Yaw Akumpo (referred to as Roberts), purportedly met with their counterparts inside an office at the NPP Headquarters in late 2022 to receive an initial payment of US$80,000.
This payment was intended for flight clearance for a chartered flight to Nicaragua, aimed at facilitating the journey of some youth seeking a pathway to the United States, as confirmed by MyNewsGh.com.
The two National Security officials received the funds from Mohammed Tindannayil Bala, who serves as the coordinator for the Nicaragua trip.
Specifically, US$80,000 was exchanged at the NPP party office in Asylum Down, while the remaining US$20,000 was transacted at Aliu’s residence in Nanakrom.
The money originated from youth residing in various communities such as Nima, Mamobi, New Town, 441, Kumasi, Tamale, Bimbila, Takoradi, and other locations across the country, all seeking better opportunities in the United States via the Nicaragua route.
Following the cancellation of the trip, Aliu and Roberts allegedly went into hiding, refusing to refund the money.
They claim to have already disbursed US$15,000 to Colonel Gaisey, the head of National Security at the airport, but are unable to retrieve it.
