Despite Manchester United’s elimination from European competition, manager Erik ten Hag affirmed that he still enjoys the support of the club.
He expressed confidence and emphasized that he is “not concerned” about the potential escalation of pressure on his job, even as his team heads to Anfield following a series of less-than-ideal results, including the recent 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
With one win in their last five games, United faces Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday, but Ten Hag remains resolute, maintaining that another loss will not undermine his position.
“I am not concerned about that,” Ten Hag said in a news conference on Friday. “I want to win and progress the team in the right direction.
“I feel [the support of the club] and they say it but actually that is fine and that is OK, but I am focusing on the process to make this team play better and make the individuals better and that is my concern.”
Despite a challenging beginning to the season, marked by more losses (12) than victories (11) for United, Ten Hag remains optimistic about the team’s future.
He believes that a turnaround in their current poor form could pave the way for a brighter outlook.
“The future for Man United is very good,” he said. “You can see how many good players we have in the squad, how many good young players who have really high potential to play at top levels worldwide.
“But we have to develop that. I am sure that when the injuries come back we will perform better.”
