Cole Palmer has said, he left Manchester City for Chelsea because he was promised more chances to play for the first team.
On deadline day, Palmer, who was a member of the England squad that won the European Under-21 Championship in the summer, signed a £42.5 million deal to join Stamford Bridge.
In September 2020, the 21-year-old earned his first-team debut after spending his whole youth career at City.
The attacker had a strong start to the season for City, scoring in both the UEFA Super Cup triumph against Sevilla and the Community Shield loss to Arsenal.
However, he had made one substitution in City’s opening three Premier League games this season.
“I’m not saying I shied away from the competition [for places at City], because I’ve never done that,” Palmer told the Daily Mail. “I’d been [around the first team] for a few years and wanted more of an opportunity to play in my position and to have more of an impact.
“‘Chelsea explained the project, and I liked the project. I feel like I can have an impact. I’ve only been there for two days; I trained the Friday and played on Saturday so I don’t know what it’s like yet. I’ll get more of a feel for it.“
