Additional details are surfacing in the aftermath of the demise of Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah.
Oheneba Asiedu, a close associate of the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Wontumi, has claimed that Wontumi fell victim to food poisoning at Mariam Hotel in Tamale, as a result of hunger.
He asserted that a stranger offered the poisoned guinea fowl meat, known as ‘akonfem,’ to John Kumah and Wontumi with the intention of harming the latter.
According to Aseidu, they were in Tamale to support Bawumia but returned late, leading Wontumi to consume a portion of the poisoned guinea fowl meat, unlike John Kumah.
“On 22nd October Myself, Wontumi, John Kumah and Kwaku Marfo were at Tamale to assist Dr. Bawumia over there with his campaign. When we got to Mariam Hotel, someone brought them akonfeh and they ate it,”he added.
Oheneba Aseidu who is also a presenter at Wontumi Radio, stated that after finishing their meal, Wontumi made several unsuccessful attempts to contact him.
In that regard, Mr Aseidu rushed to Wontumi’s door after he had missed several calls from him.
“At 1am Chairman called my phone fifteen (15) times and when I returned his calls, he couldn’t pick up. I knocked his door for more than 3 minutes and when he finally came to open the door, he was in his boxer shorts and had vomited all over the place- on his bed, floor and the washroom. John Kumah told me he only ate small portion of the meat (akomfem) but Chairman ate a lot,” he revealed.
He stated that he knocked at Wontumi’s door for over three minutes, adding that when Wontumi finally opened the door, he was in his boxer shorts and had vomited all over his room, including the bed, floor, and washroom.
