American singer Britney Spears has officially apologized to her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake for controversial claims made in her autobiography, “The Woman in Me.
Spears detailed Timberlake urging her to undergo an abortion, expressing his reluctance to embrace fatherhood, and alleging infidelity with “another celebrity.”
However, on Monday, the pop sensation took to Instagram, sharing a clip of Timberlake singing alongside Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
In a conciliatory message accompanying the post, Spears asserted, “I want to apologise for some of the things I wrote about in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about, I am deeply sorry.”
She further expressed admiration for Timberlake’s latest song, “Selfish,” and humorously pondered why seeing Timberlake and Fallon together always brought laughter.
The saga continues, as fans engage in a chart battle between Spears’ 2011 track, also titled “Selfish,” and Timberlake’s recent single, according to reports from US media.
The former couple, who dated from 1999 to 2002, faced a tumultuous period when Spears, pregnant at the time, grappled with the decision of whether to have an abortion.
The autobiography, released in October 2023, shed light on the conflicting perspectives, with Spears noting, “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it,” while Timberlake was resolute in not wanting to become a father.
The allegations triggered a social media backlash, prompting Timberlake to temporarily disable comments on his Instagram.
Although he has not issued a public response to this recent development, in 2021, he acknowledged falling short in past moments and benefiting from a system that condoned misogyny and racism.
In an Instagram post, Timberlake specifically apologised to both Britney Spears and Janet Jackson.
Spears, who has been married three times and shares two children with her second husband, Kevin Federline, also delved into her controversial conservatorship in her autobiography.
Describing herself as a “child robot,” she recounted her father’s assertion of legal control over her personal and professional affairs.
Despite recent rumours of a return to the studio, Spears declared last week that she would “never return to the music industry.”
The ongoing saga between Spears and Timberlake continues to captivate fans and media alike, with this unexpected apology adding a new twist to their complex relationship.
