On Wednesday, Premier League club Brentford announced the signing of Brazilian striker Igor Thiago, aged 22, from Club Brugge.
Thiago has penned a five-year contract with an option for a one-year extension, as confirmed by the club.
While Brentford did not disclose the financial specifics of the deal, British media outlets reported that the transfer was valued at approximately £30 million ($37.7 million), inclusive of add-ons.
“Thiago is a very exciting striker who fits the role in our team. He is hard-working and a very good pressing player. He is also a physical presence, very good in the box and can link the play,” Brentford coach Thomas Frank said in a statement.
Brentford’s England striker, Ivan Toney, is reportedly being considered for a departure from the London club.
Thiago made his move to Club Brugge in 2023, following a spell with Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad.
During his time at the Belgian club, he netted 26 goals and contributed four assists in 40 appearances.
Thiago is set to remain with Club Brugge for the remainder of the season before officially joining Brentford in July.
