Popular Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has received a six-month jail sentence without the option of a fine.
The judgement was delivered by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday morning, April 12.
Bobrisky pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of Naira abuse filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), leading to the judge’s decision.
The trouble began when Bobrisky was seen spraying money at the premiere of Eniola Ajao’s highly anticipated film “Ajakaju” at Film One Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos, last month.
Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media, likely prompting authorities to take action.
This incident is not the first time a Nigerian celebrity has faced legal consequences for Naira abuse.
In February, actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin was also sentenced to six months in prison for similar actions involving new naira notes.
