Ghanaians were left enraged, heartbroken, and also disappointed after the Black Stars’ draw with Mozambique on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpé, Côte d’Ivoire.
Till the 90th minute, Ghana was leading by two goals until Mozambique converted a penalty after Ghana’s captain, Andre Ayew, handled the ball in the box.
Reactions on social media show that Ghanaians were left even more devastated after Mozambique scored their second goal in the 94th minute, when Reinildo Mandava headed in a cross from the left wing by da Conceição Nangy, securing a late equaliser and leaving Ghana on the brink of an exit.
Amid the disappointment and hurt, Black Stars’ winger, Joseph Paintsil, has taken to X, formerly Twitter, to offer an apology to Ghanaians for the teams inability “to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.”
In a tweet, he said, ” Sincere apologies to the good people of Ghana. We are truly sorry for not meeting your expectations.Important lessons to take away from this unforgettable experience. Thank you for coming through with your support in our low moments.”
