Biden prevails in New Hampshire despite not being on ballot

Joe Biden won the Democratic primary in New Hampshire even though he wasn’t listed on the ballot.

Many people voted for him, so he did not have to feel embarrassed about losing to Dean Phillips, a Democratic congressman.

Mr Biden didn’t take part in the primary election because New Hampshire didn’t change its voting date, as the Democratic National Committee (DNC) had asked them to.

In the primary race, South Carolina will be the first state to vote next month.

As New Hampshire and the national party couldn’t agree, Mr. Biden’s supporters in the state started a campaign for voters to write his name on the ballot.

On Tuesday, it looked like Mr. Biden got 67% of the vote, which is much more than Mr. Phillips who only got 19%.

Marianne Williamson, who is 71 years old, is an author and speaker who got 4% of the vote based on some early results.

The fight between Donald Trump and Nikki Haley during the Republican primary was really intense.

The DNC chose South Carolina to be the first state to vote because it has a diverse population that better represents the whole country.

However, New Hampshire couldn’t change the date of its primary election because its state law says it must be the first primary.

The DNC took away the state’s 24 delegates and Mr. Biden didn’t sign up to run for president. Primary voting decides how many delegates will choose the party’s nominee at the national convention in August.

The US president had to deal with a challenge from Mr. Phillips, who is a congressman from Minnesota.

Mr Phillips promised to keep going with his campaign. “I’m worried that Democrats are heading towards a disaster without realizing it,” said Mr. Phillips, 55, in an interview with the media.

We accomplished it in 2016. Doing the same thing on purpose this year is not okay and embarrassing.

A normal guy, Mr Phillips started working in 2019. He is one of the richest members of Congress because he inherited his stepfather’s company that makes schnapps and liquor. According to AdImpact, he spent over $5 million on ads in the state.

Mr Biden used $156,000.
