Bedbugs await freshers – Prof Smart mocks Mahama’s free tertiary policy

Professor Smart Sarpong discussed the effectiveness of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)‘s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

In an interview on Peace FM, Professor Smart highlighted the policy’s positive impact on underprivileged youth, noting that it has significantly benefited those who are financially disadvantaged.

He praised the Free SHS policy for providing opportunities to students who might otherwise be unable to afford secondary education.

However, when comparing it to former President Mahama’s free tertiary education policy, Professor Smart expressed skepticism.

He suggested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) might be advocating for this policy out of political desperation.
Although he acknowledged that the idea of free tertiary education is commendable, he questioned the feasibility of implementing such a policy given the current economic challenges and concerns about funding.

Professor Smart called for broader consultation and thorough planning.

He humorously remarked that while the concept of free tertiary education is good, the practicalities of accommodating a large influx of students could lead to significant issues, such as overcrowded conditions in institutions.

“The Free tertiary is a good one. I am imagining the number of students who will storm the Tertiary, bedbugs awaits them,” he mocked.
