General Secretary of Ghana’s governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua has announced that the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is prepared to engage in a debate with former President John Mahama.
He emphasized that such a debate would allow Ghanaians to hear from both candidates and make informed decisions ahead of the December general elections.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Pulse on July 2, Kodua stated, “His Excellency Bawumia is ready for former President Mahama, and I believe it will be a valuable opportunity for Ghanaian voters to listen to both leaders and decide wisely. I am confident that His Excellency Bawumia will outshine Mahama.”
Kodua highlighted recent polls suggesting a strong chance for Mahama in the elections, but stressed that the ultimate verdict would come from the December 7 vote.
He emphasized the importance of citizens voting for their preferred leader.
“In May 2023, the NDC elected former President Mahama, and between then and November when we elected His Excellency Bawumia, Mahama had ample opportunity to campaign unchallenged,” Kodua explained.
“However, once Bawumia became our flagbearer and started sharing his vision and achievements as Vice President, it’s no surprise that Mahama’s popularity, as indicated by surveys, has waned.”
