Wife of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Mrs. Samira Bawumia, has contributed a donation to support chef Failatu Abdul-Razak in her Guinness World Record attempt for the longest individual cooking marathon.
According to a Facebook post by event organiser Eric Toscar, “the donation consists of 10 bags of 25 kilos of rice, 2 gallons of 25 litres of cooking oil, 2 cartons of tin tomatoes, 2 cartons of canned mackerel, 2 cartons of tuna flakes and 2 cartons of sardines.”.
Toscar also noted Mrs Bawumia “sent a delegation to do the donation on
her behalf”.
Chef Failatu is currently vying for the Guinness World Record held by Irish chef Alan Fisher, who achieved an astounding 119 hours and 57 minutes, surpassing Nigeria’s Hilda Baci. Ms. Baci, the previous record holder, had cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes, as announced by GWR on November 7, 2023.
Conducting her record attempt at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region, Chef Failatu initiated her endeavor on Sunday, December 31, 2023, with the conclusion set for today, Friday, January 5, 2024. Her goal is to surpass the 120-hour mark.
Social media users have been impressed by her unwavering stamina, composure, and the diverse array of dishes she effortlessly prepares. Some humorously suggest that, judging by her performance, she could potentially cook for a week.
Apart from delighting her live audience with her culinary skills, Chef Failatu has generously shared a significant portion of the food prepared during her Guinness World Record cook-a-thon with those in need on the streets of Tamale.
Mrs. Samira Bawumia, a potential First Lady given her husband’s position as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, praised and encouraged Chef Failatu on Facebook yesterday.
“Faila, I know you can do this, and you’ve done great so far. Keep going strong! We’re proud of you.”
